General Principles of Commercial Law is a concise compendium written specifically for non-law students. Written by experienced commercial law lecturers in the Department of Mercantile Law at the University of South Africa, it has been a prescribed text for undergraduate non-law students at various South African tertiary institutions for the past 28 years. General Principles of Commercial Law provides students with a succinct exposition of the general principles of commercial law. It covers a wide range of topics influenced by the registration requirements of the Independent Regulatory Board for Auditors. The ninth edition has been updated to reflect recent statutory and other developments in commercial law and includes:
With its application-oriented approach, the fifth EMEA edition of Statistics for Business and Economics teaches students the core concepts of statistics in the fields of business, management, and economics, with the needs of the non-mathematician in mind. The authors interweave statistical methodology with applications of data analysis to enrich students’ understanding of how statistics underpin problem-solving and decision-making. Students develop a computational foundation and learn to use various techniques before moving on to statistical application and interpretation. At the end of each section, exercises focus on computation and the use of formulas, while application exercises require students to apply what they have learnt to real-world problems.
Eddie Jones is one of the most successful sports coaches of all time. From coaching three different nations to Rugby World Cup Finals and with a winning record with England of nearly 80%, Eddie Jones knows what it takes to lead and manage high performance teams. For the first time, Eddie Jones shows just what it takes to be a leader in a high performance and high pressure environment and how these lessons can be applied to every walk of life, from coaching the U9 rugby team to leading a multinational organization to simply doing your job better. As he explains the High Performance Cycle of Success at the heart of his philosophy, Eddie Jones reveals the lessons he has learnt from Sir Alex Ferguson, Arsene Wenger, Pep Guardiola as well as from the founder of Uniqlo and Ron Adams from the NBA. He also gives a detailed analysis of his own performance as a coach as well as how he gets the best out of the players and coaches around him and what he saw in Tom Curry that no one else saw, which makes him think that he could be the next Richie McCaw. Drawing on stories of nearly thirty years of coaching, including the 2003, 2007, 2015 and 2019 World Rugby campaigns, the full story of England's 2021 Six Nations campaign as well as why it takes humour, humility and relentless curiosity to lead an eclectic mix of superstars from Maro Itoje to James Haskell, George Smith to Kyle Sinckler, to create teams that are relentlessly hungry to win, Leadership is the ultimate rugby book about what it takes to be the best. Written with Donald McRae, two-time winner of the William Hill Sports Book of the Year Award, Leadership is the book for anyone who wants to learn how to build and lead a team to success.
The history of the South African Communist Party (SACP), formed in 1921 as the Communist Party of South Africa (CPSA) and subsequently banned in 1950, has generated a very rich and fascinating literature. From its beginnings as a largely white organisation that had to adapt its Marxism-Leninism to settler colonialism and oppression of the African majority, to the days of its participation in the formation of Umkhonto weSizwe and beyond, the SACP's influence on the country has been as immense as the country's influence on it. Follow the story of SACP leaders who were forced to flee the country and go into exile in the aftermath of the Rivonia Trial coupled with the 90 day detention act. Maloka tells of their relationship with ANC leaders and their struggles to keep the movement alive until their eventual homecoming in the early 1990s. This volume is a revised version of The South African Communist Party in Exile, which was published by the Africa Institute of South Africa (AISA). What is covered here is the story of the SACP during the exile years until its unbanning in 1990, the 1990-94 negotiated transition, and the immediate period after the 1994 first democratic elections, which brought into being post-apartheid South Africa.
An inspirational and truly intersectional memoir from global humanitarian and social justice advocate Eddie Ndopu-a queer, Black wheelchair user and one of the UN Secretary-General's 17 Advocates for the SDGs. A memoir, penned with one good finger, about being profoundly disabled and profoundly successful. Global humanitarian Eddie Ndopu was born with spinal muscular atrophy, a rare degenerative motor neuron disease affecting his mobility. He was told that he wouldn't live beyond age five and yet, Ndopu thrived. He grew up loving pop music and haute couture, lip syncing to the latest hits, and was the only wheelchair user at his school, where he flourished academically. By his late teens, he had become a sought-after speaker, travelling the world to give talks on disability justice. When he is later accepted on a full scholarship into Oxford University, he soon learns that it's not just the medical community he must defy - it's the educational one too. In Sipping Dom Perignon Through a Straw, we follow Ndopu, sporting his oversized, bejewelled sunglasses, as he scales the mountain of success, only to find exclusion, discrimination, and neglect waiting for him on the other side. As he soars professionally, sipping champagne with world leaders, he continues to feel the loneliness and pressure of being the only one in the room. Determined to carve out his place in the world, he must challenge bias at the highest echelons of power and prestige. Searing, vulnerable and inspiring, Ndopu's remarkable journey to reach beyond ableism, reminds us never to let anyone else define our limits.

Holocaust survivor Eddie Jaku made a vow to smile every day and believed he was the 'happiest man on earth'. In his inspirational memoir, he paid tribute to those who were lost by telling his story and sharing his wisdom. 'Eddie looked evil in the eye and met it with joy and kindness . . . [his] philosophy is life-affirming' - Daily Express Life can be beautiful if you make it beautiful. It is up to you. Eddie Jaku always considered himself a German first, a Jew second. He was proud of his country. But all of that changed in November 1938, when he was beaten, arrested and taken to a concentration camp. Over the next seven years, Eddie faced unimaginable horrors every day, first in Buchenwald, then in Auschwitz, then on a Nazi death march. He lost family, friends, his country. The Happiest Man on Earth is a powerful, heartbreaking and ultimately hopeful memoir of how happiness can be found even in the darkest of times. 'Australia's answer to Captain Tom . . . a memoir that extols the power of hope, love and mutual support' - The Times

Triple bill of zombie films. Fortunately for them, they meet a tough group that includes Henry (Rhames) and Cassie (Lesley-Ann Brandt), who take on the zombies with weapons as diverse as a sledgehammer and a samurai sword. 'Abraham Lincoln Vs Zombies' (2012) is a tongue-in-cheek zombie horror in which Abraham Lincoln is distracted from his composition of the Gettysburg Address by a more pressing concern - an outbreak of the undead. Lincoln (Bill Oberst Jr.) leads a team of Secret Service agents to the area to try and contain the disaster. There is a suggestion that Lincoln may have some experience of dealing with zombies from his past and he takes under his wing a youngster by the name of Teddy Roosevelt (Canon Kuipers), who may have a role of his own to play in the American story. 'The Dead' (2010) is a zombie horror set in West Africa. Robert Freeman stars as Lieutenant Brian Murphy, a military engineer who finds himself stranded in the wilderness of Burkina Faso after a zombie outbreak lays waste to civilisation. Double bill featuring two spoof comedies. 'Epic Movie' (2007) tells the tale of four fully grown orphans: one the victim of snakes that attacked her plane, another raised by a kindly Louvre curator, the third a Mexican 'libre' wrestling refuge, and the last an average mutant from an 'X'-community. When the curious quartet visits a sprawling chocolate factory, they stumble across a magical wardrobe which transports them to the enchanted land of Gnarnia. It seems that the wondrous fantasy land has recently fallen under the spell of the evil White Bitch (Jennifer Coolidge), and in order to bring peace back to Gnarnia these four bumbling mortals will have to join forces with a charismatic pirate, a painfully sincere group of aspiring wizards, and one particularly libidinous lion. 'Date Movie' (2006) stars Alyson Hannigan as a hopeless romantic who has finally met the man of her dreams Grant Funkyerdoder. But before they can have their 'Big Fat Greek Wedding', they'll have to 'Meet the Parents', hook up with 'The Wedding Planner' and contend with Grant's girlfriend, Andy, a spectacularly beautiful woman who wants to put a stop to her 'Best Friend's Wedding'.

This groundbreaking book provides a critically informed and holistic analysis of the impact and legacy of mega-sporting events through the lens of South Africa's 2010 FIFA Soccer World Cup and its associated developmental paradigm. In doing so, it challenges mainstream thinking and mega-event praise singers by providing rigorous political-economic analysis and concrete evidence to show that this sporting spectacular was little more than a front for massive accumulation and extraction of wealth, alongside increased sporting and socio-economic inequality. Contributors to this volume examine the sports accumulation-complex, economic promises, construction companies, trade unions, strikes, international solidarity, the struggle to trade, sex work, climate change, as well as case studies on the building of individual soccer stadiums.
Spanning five continents, this cutting-edge book provides a thorough international overview of equality, diversity and inclusion at work. Analysing the demographics of the workplace and the economic outcomes achieved by different segments of the population, it offers readers a better understanding of diverse work environments and how they are influenced by legislation and populations. Grounded in theoretical and legal frameworks and supported by primary and secondary research, the Research Handbook highlights which dimensions of diversity and equality at work should be addressed. Chapters cover topics such as gender inequality and the underrepresentation of women in managerial positions, non-discrimination employment legislation, the labour participation of persons with disabilities and more. Focusing on previously under-researched countries across the world, from Bosnia and Herzegovina and Chile to Lebanon, Morocco, Singapore and several others from the Global South, this Research Handbook offers a fresh perspective on key issues within the workplace. This Research Handbook will be key reading for academics and graduate students in management, industrial relations, public policy and sociology looking to develop their knowledge of equality, diversity and inclusion in an organisational context and in under-researched countries. It will also be of great benefit to policy makers and employers in government, civil society and the private sector who wish to increase diversity and improve their equality and inclusion policies and practices in the workplace. |
